Archery is for everyone.

Since we started this business we’ve often been told that we really picked a good time to start an archery business. Hunger Games, Brave, The Avengers and now the Olympics are all great for getting people interested in archery. Archery is a great sport for so many reasons and I love being involved with it, but the one thing that takes it higher than any other sport I’ve ever played is the undeniable fact that everyone can do it.

Archery is instinctive, you will hear that over and over again if you get involved in the sport. What does that mean? It means that you already know how to shoot a bow. You might not have the best form but you do know how. If you had never shot a bow before in your life and you came out to my range and I handed you a bow and arrow I have no doubt that you could manage to fling an arrow towards the target. With the briefest of instruction you would be able to hit the target at 10 yards fairly consistently. You will also be able to hit a foam disk flying through the air. I don’t know of any other sport that everyone can pick up so easily.I know this to be true because I have seen it happen over and over again.

I have seen six year old boys and 70 year old men, neither having ever shot a bow before in their life, pluck a  flying 10″ foam target out of the air. That is amazing to me, but it is becoming a very common story. We are nearing 100 people on our First Stapled Target gallery, I would bet that nearly half of them had not shot a bow before they tried trap archery. Archery is instinctive, you can do it, everyone can do it.

Of course you then can spend years perfecting that instinctive skill, but the base skill is there, for you and everyone else.

Hope to see you out at the range!
